Energy bills alert: Prices to install a new boiler soar to £3,300 amid cost of living crisis | Personal finance | Finance

It comes as homes across the UK prepare for their energy bills exceed £3,600 in October following the price cap increase. Experts cite that households could save hundreds of pounds a year if they upgraded or installed a new Boiler in their house. However, a recent breakdown from Boiler Central suggests the cost of such a facility could be as high as £3,300.

Listing the most common boiler installations, energy experts pointed out that the cost of installing a home without a boiler is £2,899.

Additionally, converting a back boiler to a combi boiler would cost a household an average of £3,299.

Replacing a combi boiler is relatively cheaper for some homes with an average installation cost of £1,795.

Despite the expense, installing a new boiler in your home could increase the value of someone’s home by up to £8,000, according to GoCompare’s property investment calculator.

On top of that, households switching from a G-rated to an A-rated boiler could save up to £580 a year on a household’s energy bills after the price cap was raised.

Currently, the price of energy is expected to rise in October, but will rise again in January to reach £4,266 according to current estimates.

Myles Robinson, an energy expert at Boiler Central, described the true cost of installing boilers in homes.

Mr Robinson explained: ‘Replacing a boiler can be expensive, particularly in today’s climate, but as you can see there are many benefits to adding a new boiler to your home as it will reduce your energy bills and add value to your home.

DO NOT MISS

“Some old boilers cost more to repair than to replace, so it’s important to weigh your options.”

The boiler expert noted that consumers can request different payment options to spread the costs over a long period.

To help households save money on their energy bills over the next year, experts explain why homes should keep their boilers on even in the hottest months.

A Boiler Central spokesperson added: ‘Most homeowners think they should turn their boiler off as soon as summer rolls around, but that’s far from the case.

“Switching your boiler off for long periods of time can do more harm than good, which is why it’s important to turn your heating on once in a while.

“This will protect the inner workings of old and modern boilers and prevent them from seizing up.

“If you switch off your boiler at the beginning of May and only turn the central heating back on in the autumn months, you may find it difficult to fully revive your boiler.

“This will affect appliances such as your central heating, hot water for your main shower and some washing machines which may draw hot water from the boiler.

“In the worst case, parts may need to be replaced, which will cost both time and money, especially if you have to hire a central heating specialist for the job.”

Recently, the government launched the Boiler Upgrade Program to help households switch to more environmentally friendly energy use.

This scheme offers households £5,000 towards the cost of an air source heat pump and £6,000 towards the cost of a ground source heat pump.

On top of that, the government is giving homes £5,000 to install biomass boilers for properties in rural areas that aren’t connected to the gas grid.
