How to Save Money: Five Ways to Cut the Cost of Your Phone Bill | Personal finance | Finance

A refurbished phone has had a previous owner, but is resold by a network, manufacturer, or retailer who would have repaired the product and performed checks to ensure it is in good working order.

Buying a refurbished phone instead of a brand new one is a great way to get the latest flagship device you’ve been looking for at a “significantly cheaper price” and still offers returns and warranty benefits, according to Mr. Wilson.

Kyle added: “These are the handsets that were returned, for many possible reasons.

“One of the most common reasons is that the phone was returned due to a change of mind. In other cases, there may have been a slight fault with the handset, which has since been repaired for make it suitable for resale.

“Make sure you always buy from an authorized retailer, as this will ensure that the products have been checked by technicians, and reconditioned if necessary, before being offered for sale at a reduced price.”

Save big with SIM-Only

Another great way to cut costs on your phone bill to switch to SIM card only if you are happy with your current device.

You might not feel the excitement of unboxing a new mobile, but you can enjoy a lower monthly cost and the flexibility of shorter contracts, such as 1-month or 12-month contracts.

Mr Wilson said: “SIM-only contracts could save you money, with SIM-only options starting at just £6 a month. SIM card prices vary depending on the data allowance, SMS and minutes desired.

Although, he continues, “If you have your eye on a new phone, you should also keep an eye on contractual agreements. In most cases, a contract deal will be cheaper than buying a SIM-only phone and a new phone separately.

Reevaluate your data allowances

We’re used to using our phones and the internet everywhere we go, so when choosing a mobile phone contract, try to select a data plan that best suits your needs.

Often you may find that you are using much less data than you think, and you can determine this by comparing your usage to past phone bills.

Opting for a contract with a smaller data allowance is usually the cheapest way to get the phone you want.
