The corporate sector provided job opportunities for Agniveers after retirement

Even as protests have erupted across the country against the government’s Agnipath program, which aims to hire young soldiers called Agniveers, on a short-term basis in the three defense forces, companies have come forward to offer employment to these recruits a once they are relieved of their respective forces.

  1. Joining the chorus of other India Inc executives who have offered to employ Agniveers, Welspun Chairman BK Goenka said on Tuesday that his company would find suitable openings for recruits.

  2. “The Agnipath program is a golden opportunity for industry to hire highly qualified, disciplined and talented personnel into their organizations,” he said in a statement.

  3. With a minor focus on industrial machinery, Mr. Goenka said: “They will be able to deliver quality production. Agniveers will find suitable openings at various levels in Welspun.”

  4. Earlier on Monday, Mahindra Group chairman Anand Mahindra said his group would also recruit “young capable people” trained under the Agnipath scheme.

  5. “Saddened by the violence around the Agnipath program. When the program was brought up last year, I said – and I repeat – the discipline and skills acquired by Agniveers will make them eminently employable. The Mahindra Group rejoices of the opportunity to recruit such trained and capable young people,” Anand Mahindra tweeted on Monday.

  6. Shortly after Mahindra’s comments, RPG Enterprises President Harsh Goenka also offered his support to Agniveers. “The RPG Group also welcomes the opportunity to employ the Agniveers. I hope other companies will also join us in making this commitment and securing a future for our young people,” he tweeted.

  7. N Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Salt-to-Software Tata Group, called the program a great opportunity for young people to serve the nation. He added that Agnipath would help the industry, including the Tata Group, to get a group of disciplined and trained young people.

  8. “We recognize the potential of the Agniveers and welcome the opportunity this represents,” he said in a statement.

  9. Kiran Mazumdar Shaw, founding chairman of major pharmaceutical company Biocon, said Agniveers will have a distinct recruitment advantage in the industrial labor market.

  10. “The Agnipath program will have a significant positive impact on society and contribute greatly to nation building. Agniveers will play a key role in furthering economic growth and strengthening society in the years to come,” said Sudarshan Venu, Managing Director of TVS Motor Company.
