The government’s One Nation, One Ration Card (ONORC) program has been successfully implemented across the country, with Assam being the latest state to operationalize the service. Under ONORC, beneficiaries covered by the National Food Security Act 2013 (NFSA) can obtain their subsidized food grain quota from any electronic point of sale (ePoS) of their choice, using their existing ration cards with biometric authentication. .
Simply put, eligible people can easily get subsidized food grains from government stores.
According to the Ministry of Food, the portability of ration cards has been instrumental in securing subsidized food grains for NFSA beneficiaries, especially migrant beneficiaries, over the last two years of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Currently, a monthly average of around 3 crore in portable transactions is being recorded, delivering subsidized NFSA and free PMGKAY (Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana) food grains with anywhere flexibility to beneficiaries, he added .
The Center has also deployed the “MERA RATION” mobile application, aimed at making the most of the ONORC plan.
The mobile app provides a range of useful real-time information to beneficiaries and is available in 13 languages.
So far, the app has been downloaded more than 20,000 times on Google Play Store.
