stranger things has always been a hit for Netflix, and that’s thanks to all the wonderful cast characters. However, over the seasons, some characters go unnoticed. Even those in the main cast don’t get the recognition they deserve because there’s always too much going on with the storyline. It’s easy to say that the main characters are the best, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that others haven’t had their time to shine.
Each character has their episode or moment throughout the season, and it’s important to recognize how much a character affects the overall story. It’s hard to see how the show continues and none of the main characters have been killed off yet, but again, that’s not game of thrones. The problem with certain characters being pushed aside for a larger storyline is that the actors don’t get the same material they used to get in previous seasons for them to shine.
Lucas Sinclair (Caleb McLaughlin) is part of the main cast, but it still feels like he’s underrated. From everyone, it feels like Lucas gets lost in the mix and doesn’t get the same material as everyone else. The only good thing that can happen to Lucas is to meet Max (Sadie sink), the two had great chemistry and Lucas grew a bit more as a character. However, it’s still not good enough.
McLaughlin is so talented and fans have noticed that he doesn’t get the same screen time as the rest of his cast. In season four, Lucas has a little more to do, but it still fails because none of the subplots ever work around him. Lucas is such a strong character and is a fan favorite due to his underappreciation.
When Max came on the scene in season three, it seemed like such a big step for the main cast. All the characters were pretty much settled into their dynamics, and then Max steps in and shakes it up a bit. Max is one of those characters who go unnoticed but who remain extremely likeable. Her relationship with Lucas is what made fans love both characters, but until episode four of season four, Max faded into the background.
Of course, his friendship with Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) in season three was adorable, but the story wasn’t even focused on her. She’s been through so much and had to fend for herself. She’s one of the best characters on the show because of everything she’s had to put up with and stay calm.
It seems that after the first season, Jonathan Byers (Charlie Heaton) took a step back from the fans because of Steve Harrington (Joe Cley). Once Will (Noah Schnapp) was safe and their family wasn’t struggling like in the first season, Jonathan became the voice of reason. The couple of Jonathan and Nancy Wheeler (Natalia Dyer) is what showed his intelligence and compassion towards others.
He became the “fix” person for so many others on the show. He goes above and beyond his family’s expectations and still doesn’t get the recognition he deserves. He does everything for everyone without asking anything in return. His selflessness is what makes him such a wonderful character and an anchor for many on the show.
Returning in the first season, Benny Hammond (Chris Sullivan) took care of little Eleven. Seeing a man of his stature being so kind and understanding to a young child who had no idea what was going on was so endearing.
Benny tried his best to help Eleven and even protected her as best he could. Even though he played such a minor role in the first season without Benny, Eleven couldn’t have survived the start of this season.
After the second season, it felt like the importance that Will Byers had since the start of the series was slowly fading away. Will then became the one character that everyone used as an example given what he went through. But now Will is so much more than all that trauma and people tend to forget that he can still grow as a character.
At the same time, it comes down to the writing of the characters and the focus shifted to the other main actors. It’s time for Will to be seen as a teenager out to discover himself.
Murray Bauman (Brett Gelman) is a character who is always there to help no matter what. People don’t notice how useful it is when they watch the show. He is charismatic, a cook and full of good ideas. In the most recent season, Murray and Joyce proved to be such a great team that it helps fans appreciate Murray a little more.
It’s this goofy character that’s misunderstood, but he still manages to sneak into your heart. His background in journalism made him important to the show, but he never gets the credit he deserves for his bold ideas on the show.
Little Erica Sinclair (Priah Ferguson) has been in the shadows behind her brother Lucas for far too long, and it’s time for her to shine. Erica is such a strong character and is obsessed with Dungeons and Dragons just like her brother was. In the new season, Erica shows off her chops and can show how sassy she can be.
Even though she has such a minor role, the older she gets, the more interesting her character becomes. It changes the dynamic between the whole crew and their chemistry with the other characters is great.
A new addition to stranger things family is Eddie Munson (joseph quinn). He looks like the epitome of so many 80s rock stars, and he’s the leader of the Hellfire Club and loves playing Dungeons and Dragons. At first, Eddie acts tough and was held back for a few years because he couldn’t get the grades. After what happened with Chrissy (Grace Van Dien), Eddie completely changes.
He’s another character who is overshadowed by Steve Harrington’s love and fans should warm up to Eddie Munson. He’s such a likable character because of his honesty about how he feels.
There’s always this character who’s always there and having a good time, even when things get dark. Argyle (Edouard Franco) is by far one of the best characters in the series due to his charm. He doesn’t even have to try because he’s just himself in this show.
He compliments Jonathan quite well due to his nervousness, while Argyle is calm and collected. He helps when he can, even when under the influence. His friends mean a lot to him and that’s what makes him such a fun character to watch.
At the start of the series, Bob Newby (Sean Astin) arrived and ended up being Joyce’s (winona ryder) buddy. He was the local radio manager in town, so he had no reason to get involved in anything that was going on in Upside Down.
Still, on a very human level for the show, Bob has been in the thick of it because of Joyce, and he should easily be considered a hero. Fans were blindsided by the possibility of Hopper (David Harbor) and Joyce being an element that Bob has become underrated.
