Avatar quietly removed from Disney+ ahead of theatrical re-release

james cameronit is Avatar was pulled from Disney+ just a month before the film was re-released in theaters. AvatarThe re-release of is being pushed by Disney to increase the hype surrounding Avatar: The Way of the Watera sequel that’s been in development for over a decade and finally hits theaters in December.

Until now, Disney+ subscribers could watch Cameron’s otherworldly adventure as many times as they wanted from the comfort of their couches. Unfortunately, if you waited until the last minute to review Avatar before The way of the water, the movie is no longer available. The classic’s removal is likely motivated by its re-release, as not having the film available for streaming may convince more people to go to the cinema.

Avatar made history in 2009 when it became the first film to break the $2.8 billion mark at the international box office, taking over Titanicthe position of the biggest exit ever, with 2.2 billion dollars. Avatar still holds the world crown, but has since lost a few positions in the national rankings to Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Avengers: Endgameand Spider-Man: No Coming Home. So it’s easy to see why Disney is waiting The way of the water to become another huge box office success and try to make some more money from the first film. Even so, the deletion Avatar from Disney+ is shaping up to be a dodgy move, especially since Disney has given subscribers no warning.
