It’s been 14 years since Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull came out and now Harrison Ford has one more adventure in him as cinema’s favorite archaeologist. The Hollywood legend, who turns 80 next month, will return in Indiana Jones 5 in a story set around the 1969 moon landing. He will be joined in the summer 2023 blockbuster by co-star Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Mads Mikkelsen’s mysterious villain in a film that also shot scenes set during World War II with Nazi troops.
There are all kinds of rumors about IndianaJones 5, this time directed by Logan’s James Mangold with Steven Spielberg remaining as producer. Some fans even wondered if such flashbacks were actually time travel.
Ford himself was spotted in set photos last summer sporting dots on his face for digital de-aging. Either way, it’ll be fun to see Indy in World War II, which was hinted at in the 1950s setting of Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
Franchise producer Frank Marshall couldn’t be more excited to show fans the fifth outing, which will arrive 42 years after the original Raiders of the Lost Ark.
Mads also praised Ford as “out of this world” in Indiana Jones 5, adding, “Hopefully I’ll be in good shape when I’m 80.”
Meanwhile, speaking with Comic Book at Star Wars Celebration 2022, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy said, “James Mangold has done an amazing job with Indy. And he and Harrison have an amazing relationship and I think the fans are going to love what he’s created. It’s fantastic.”
Indiana Jones 5 hits theaters on June 30, 2023.
