New Delhi:

A few days after the Gujarati film Chello Show (Last Film Show) was named as India’s official entry for Best International Feature Film at the 95th Academy Awards, Don’t look up director Adam McKay, in a tweet called the decision to snub of SS Rajamouli RRR as an official entry a “parody”. He also wrote that the film should be nominated in the Best Picture category at the Oscars. Adam McKay, responding to a tweet on RRR‘s snub, wrote, “It’s a travesty. But let’s make sure it gets a better image name. Can we do a screening at the Rose Bowl? (Would that be amazing?) #RRR.”

Here is what Adam McKay tweeted:

Adam McKay, a great RRR fan, applauded the film in a separate tweet and wrote, “Honestly, if you haven’t seen RRR tonight will be an amazing first viewing. I could show up in a tuxedo with a live tiger.” His tweet referred to the big stage just before intermission.

RRR, set in the 1920s, is a “fictional story based on two legendary freedom fighters – Alluri Seetharamaraju and Komaram Bheem”. It boasts of an impressive cast which included Ram Charan and Jr NTR in the lead roles. He also starred Alia Bhatt, Ajay Devgn, Olivia Morris, Samuthirakani, Alison Doody, Ray Stevenson. The film opened to largely positive reviews from film critics and, needless to say, an overwhelming response from audiences both in India and across the world. The film is also set to be released in Japan in October this year.

RRR was SS Rajamouli’s first project after the 2017 blockbuster Baahubali 2: the conclusion, which was also a huge hit. The film was released worldwide in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam simultaneously. The film’s release dates have been pushed back multiple times due to the pandemic and shutdowns. Almost two months after its theatrical release, the film began streaming on Netflix. According to the OTT giant, RRR (Hindi) became “the most popular Indian film on Netflix globally” in June.
