Today marks the Queen bassist’s 71st birthday John Deaconwho retired from the music industry 25 years ago in 1997. His former bandmates Brian May and Roger Taylorwho still performs as a band with Adam Lambert on vocals, paid tribute to the caption on Instagram.

Stereo enthusiast Brian posted a 3D double image of Deacon in his prime.

The 75-year-old captioned the post: “Happy Birthday Deacy!!! Here we celebrate the amazing John Deacon’s birthday in stereo. This flawless 3D conversion was made last night by our dear friend and collaborator Sarah Falk aka @blueprintblues. Watching this capture of Deacon in mid-air – in stereo – makes those glory days so close I could touch them. Hope you’re having a great day Jean. Bri.”

Roger Taylor, 73, also joined in the celebrations by snapping a photo of himself with Deacon during Queen’s years together, captioned: ‘Happy Birthday JD’.

Roger shared that he remembers the last time he saw Deacon in person, it was in the bar of the musical We Will Rock You around 2004.

As for Brian, he admitted: “We are not [in touch], it’s John’s choice. He doesn’t want to be [involved], he wants to be left alone. It’s his choice and I think he needs it.

The Queen guitarist explained that the bassist didn’t pull out out of spite or anything, as apparently the band never argued.

He continued, β€œIt’s just that he needs his privacy; you have to respect that. All I know is that he agrees. If he wasn’t well, we would know. This is the arrangement we have. Whatever the type of decision, artistic or commercial, financial, management, we always go ahead of John.

Brian revealed how their deal is that if they don’t hear from Deacon, he’s okay with their decision.

The 75-year-old said: “If we get an answer he’ll have a strong opinion and we’ll take note of that. So he’s really part of the team, he’s just a low-key part of the team. – which he’s always been in a way, to be honest. He’s quiet until he really talks and then you have to listen.

When asked if the retired star often communicates with a disagreement, the Queen guitarist admitted that he does from time to time.

Brian added: “Occasionally, yeah, occasionally because it’s a close-knit family, the Queen family. And that includes Freddie’s estate; the four of us are still very bonded and that can’t really change.
