Kevin Smith predicts the future of the Ezra Miller-directed Flash movie, suggesting that Warner Bros. may have “tested the water” with Batgirl.

Filmmaker and pop culture commentator Kevin Smith thinks the recent bat girl cancellation could also result in the flash discarded film. DC fans were stunned when it was announced that Warner Bros. Discovery put aside the bat girl film slated for release on HBO Max, despite the fact that the film was almost finished. Lead by director duo Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah (Ms. Marvel, Bad Boys For Life) and starred Leslie Grace as the titular heroine until her untimely demise, the film reportedly cost the studio $90 million, but its cancellation is estimated to provide the studio with $15-20 million in tax cuts .

Meanwhile, the flash the film which will feature beleaguered star Ezra Miller has been the subject of much speculation following Batgirl cancelation. Whereas The new CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, David Zaslav expressed her enthusiasm for the film, and producer Barbara Muschietti also took to social media to assure fans that “everything was fine in Flash land,“The troubling behavior of its lead actor has again raised many question marks about the film’s viability. With Miller arrested multiple times for assault and disorderly conduct and charged with grooming, the prospect of marketing the film before its release has become increasingly difficult.

More recently, Smith, who had one of his own projects canceled following Recent cuts from Warner Bros. Discovery at HBO Maxtalked about what he thinks about the consequences of Batgirl the cancellation will be for The flash. Speaking on the most recent episode of the Hollywood chatter podcast, Smith suggested the bat girl the cancellation may have been an attempt to “test the water” before making a decision on the future of The flash. Check out his comments below:

I wouldn’t be surprised, I know they said “Flash is safe”, but I wouldn’t be surprised if that was them testing the waters and thinking “Let’s just see what they say if we cancel Bat girl. And if it doesn’t go so bad, maybe we just fucking cancel Glow”. Because it’s problematic, how are they going to market this movie without a top actor to go out on the road and do press and stuff?

With a budget more than double that of bat girlthe decision to cancel the flash certainly wouldn’t be the one that Warner Bros. Discovery would do so lightly. Even with the plethora of problems caused by Miller’s off-screen antics, the film still represents a major investment both financially and in the fragile future of the highly troubled DCEU franchise. With the flash also intended to serve as the triumphant return of Michael Keaton as Batmanthe film’s cancellation would also likely spell the end of Keaton’s highly anticipated return to DC.

With the flash Still slated for a June 2023 release date, there’s no doubt DC fans will be keeping a close eye out for any hints of a Warner Bros. move. to suspend the project. Despite Zaslav’s claims that the studio has big plans for DC’s future, most would agree that the current situation leaves the franchise with a number of hurdles to overcome. Hopefully the future of the flash and all other DC movies follow will not suffer the same unfortunate fate as bat girl, and the studio will find a way to resolve its issues with their wayward star.
