Secret Wars May Pay No Way Home’s Symbiote Tease

Spider-Man: No Way Home gave the MCU a chance to use a symbiote storyline, and Avengers: Secret Wars is the best place to do that.

With Marvel announcing the next Avengers: Secret Wars project, the door is now open for the MCU to pay back one of the biggest things put together by Spider-Man: No Coming Home. With the future of the MCU’s web-slinger iteration uncertain, there are still a number of stories to be told with the character. Somehow the Spider-Man: Homecoming The trilogy was an extended origin story for the young crime fighter as it explored his transformation into a true hero.

However, there are still plenty of stories to tell about Spider-Man’s adult years, such as the story of the infamous black suit. Spider-Man and the Black Suit – later revealed to be an alien parasite – have a long and combative relationship. The storyline that revolves around his introduction into his life is so popular that it’s been featured in nearly every screen adaptation of Spider-Man since his debut. Most notably, to the chagrin of many, was 2007 Spiderman 3, which was widely panned. Finally, Sony tried something different with 2018 Venom, completely bypassing Spider-Man’s role in that character’s backstory. It wouldn’t be until 2021 Spider-Man: No Coming Home that the black suit and Spider-Man would be reunited on the big screen. Except that’s not exactly what happened. Related: Venom’s MCU Future Is Good For Tom Holland (But Bad For Sony) Whereas The presence of Venom in Spider-Man: No Coming Home was apparently a cameo, the MCU is able to pay for what this teasing symbiote cameo set up using Avengers: Secret Wars to properly introduce this Spider-Man to the symbiote. It would be a logical game, given the comic book origins of the black suit. Not only that, but it could be used to further explore Peter’s place in the MCU.

How Spider-Man Can Fit Into MCU Phase 6’s Avengers Movies

Tom Holland’s Spider-Man future isn’t entirely certain, and introducing him to the black symbiote suit could solve that problem, building an MCU Phase 6 storyline that would fit into the avengers films, but could also be explored further outside of them. The MCU’s Spider-Man came to a halt at the end of a transition period for the character, preparing to enter his adult life fully prepared to take on new challenges on his own. The Black Suit is a storyline that revolves heavily around Peter grappling with the struggles of his increasingly complicated and stressful adult life, while Spider-Man’s fight against Venom represents the consequences of his actions during this period. Bringing in the black suit to help with these misfortunes – only to exacerbate them later – would be a fitting way to bring Peter back into the MCU fold, perhaps at the height of his struggles and feeling overwhelmed, especially now that he’s basically alone. Introducing Peter to the black suit would also be easy and appropriate, given the upcoming Phase 6 storyline.

Spider-Man’s black suit debuted in the 1984 comic Secret Wars, where he obtained the alien costume on a patchwork planet called Battle World. Circumstances will almost certainly be remarkably different, but The future of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man in the MCU’s Phase 6 would work alongside that storyline, depicting a more mature Peter Parker doing his best to transition through adulthood while juggling his secret life as a superhero. After teasing in Spider-Man: No Coming Home, the MCU could do worse than take Peter to Battle World, only to come into contact with the symbiote and introduce a black-suited Spider-Man to the MCU in Avengers: Secret Wars.
