The Gathering 2023 sets officially announced

Wizards of the Coast has announced the Magic: The Gathering 2022 and 2023 sets, which include a few surprises for longtime fans of the franchise.

Wizards of the Coast has announced the 2023 sets for Magic: The Gathering, which will include the return of some fan-favorite planes. The rest MTG sets for 2022 have already been revealed, the next one being Dominaria United on September 9, which features a return to the original MTG frame, as part of the series’ 30th anniversary celebrations.

2022 has been a great year for MTGwith cyberpunk fueled Kamigawa: The Neon Dynasty set characters of street fighter appearing as part of the Universe beyond line, and the Streets of New Capenna together bringing fantasy gangsters from the prohibition era into the game. MTG also had another cross with J&Dwith Commander Legends: Battle for Baldur’s Gate bring in heroes from Baldur’s Gate series in the game as commanders. 2022 is not over yet, because the MTG Universes Beyond line add to Warhammer 40k Commander Decks in game.

Wizards Of The Coast has announced plenty of upcoming content for MTG and J&D during the Wizards Presents event on August 18. This presentation included revealing the names of all the first sets coming in 2023. These sets will include a long-running Phyrexian story, a return to Eldraine, and deadly adventures in Ixalan.

The Upcoming Magic: The Gathering Sets for 2022-2023

Wizards of the Coast showed an infographic during the Wizards Presents event which revealed the names of the 2022-23 MTG sets, as well as loose post windows. Fans already know the identity of the Dominaria United and The Brothers War sets, as well as their release dates. The big revelations of the infographic are Phyrexia: All Will Be One in Q1 2023, March of the Machine in Q2 2023, and Running of the machine: the consequences in Q2 2023, all of which will be part of the Phyrexian story arc. These will be followed by Savages of Eldraine in Q2 2023, which will mark a return to MTGThe plane inspired by fairy tales. The last of the announced sets is Lost Caverns of Ixalan in Q4 2023, which features the Ixalan Jungle Plane, and Wizards of the Coast mentioned that the set will feature pirates, dinosaurs, and vampires vying for dominance.

The Wizards Presents event has revealed a ton of information about the upcoming MTG content, including information about new Universe beyond sets. MTG fans now know that Eldraine and Ixalan will be featured in sets in 2023, though details are still scarce at this time. 2023 marks the 30th anniversary of Magic: The Gathering and Wizards of the Coast has prepared a lot to celebrate the game’s history.
