Meanwhile, Asda first cut prices by fourpence per litre, followed by a further cut of fivepence on petrol and threepence on diesel.

AA President Edmund King also criticized major retailers for not cutting prices, calling their actions “unforgivable”.

He added: “Average UK pump prices are down around 9.5p per liter for petrol and 7p for diesel compared to early July.

“But, since early June, wholesale petrol is down 20p-25p a liter depending on whether you factor in VAT or not.
