Freeview users get a brand new channel to listen to next week

Freeview is getting a new channel next week that will open up customers to a whole new world of content. On September 21, the new UK Radio Portal channel will be available on Freeview channel 277 and will allow viewers to tune in to a wide selection of radio stations. At the moment you can tune into a number of radio stations on Freeview such as BBC Radio 1 and BBC Radio 4, but UK Radio Portal offers something completely different.

As well as allowing Freeview customers to listen to radio stations from across the UK, it will also offer a selection of radio stations from around the world.

This will help open up Freeview viewers to a whole host of content they wouldn’t normally be able to access.

Speaking of the service, UK Radio Portal said in a statement: “UK Radio Portal is a revolutionary and innovative new interactive television service designed to bring a wide variety of internet broadcast radio channels to the UK Digital Terrestrial TV Freeview network via a – use the interface accessible from the Freeview electronic program guide.

“The service works on compatible internet-connected smart TVs (such as Freeview Play), allowing consumers to access a wide variety of local, regional, national and international radio services without forcing them to leave the familiar surroundings of their main TV screen and Free Menu.”

To access the UK Radio Portal you will need to ensure that you have a compatible Freeview TV or decoder. You will also need to ensure that your Freeview device is connected to the internet, with a minimum download speed of 2 Mbps.

It is important to point out that some stations available on UK Radio Portal may not be licensed by Ofcom.

Therefore, warning messages about the content that could be broadcast will appear on the screen when you log in.

UK Radio Portal will join the dozens of radio stations already available to listen to via Freeview.
