Angel City settles for a road tie against Kansas City

Lo’eau LaBonta converted an 82nd-minute penalty as Kansas City Current rallied to equalize Angel City FC 1-1 Friday night at Children’s Mercy Park in Kansas City, Kan.

LaBonta fouled out when she was knocked out by Angel City’s Paige Nielsen in the box. LaBonta drilled his shot into the top right corner to score his fifth goal of the season and tie the game.

The city of angels Curry Roccaro gave his team a short-lived lead in the 78th minute as they put a header into the net. Ali Riley was credited with the assist.

“It wasn’t our absolute best one-mile performance. We struggled to impose ourselves on the game”, coach of Angel City Freya Coombe said. “For us to come away with a point… we’ll take it straight away, especially after this performance, and move on to the next game.”

An announced 10,395 attended the game as the Current extended their unbeaten streak to 11 games.

Kansas City remains in third place in the National Women’s Soccer League standings with a 7-4-5 record, while Angel City are 6-5-4 and remain in seventh place.
