Commonwealth Games 2022: Wrestler Deepak Punia wins gold by defeating Pakistan’s Muhammad Inam

Indian wrestler Deepak Punia won the gold medal in the men’s freestyle 86kg category at the Commonwealth Games 2022. He defeated Muhammad Inam of Pakistan at the Coventry Arena Wrestling Mat B on Friday. Punia won the gold medal match 3-0. Punia won India’s third wrestling gold at the Commonwealth Games 2022. The Indian wrestler took a 2-0 lead in the first period and all the pressure was mounting on Punia’s opponent in the last three minutes.

Punia was in good form in this match. In the final three minutes, he managed to hold his own and kept his opponent at bay to take the gold away.

The Pakistani wrestler struggled to find a way through Punia’s strong defense and went home without scoring a point.

Earlier, star Indian wrestler Bajrang Punia won the gold medal for India in men’s 65kg by winning the final against Canada’s Lachlan McNeil.


Anshu Malik had to settle for a silver medal after losing to Odunayo Folasade Adekuroye of Nigeria in the women’s 57kg freestyle wrestling.

The Commonwealth Games 2022 will begin in Birmingham from 28 July to 8 August.
