Naveen of India won gold medal in Commonwealth Games 2022
Indian wrestler Naveen won the gold medal in the men’s freestyle 74kg category final by defeating Pakistan’s Muhammad Sharif Tahir in the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2022. He defeated Muhammad Sharif Tahir at the Coventry Arena Wrestling Mat B on Saturday. Naveen registered a 9–0 win against Tahir in the gold medal match and won India’s third gold of the day at the Commonwealth Games. Naveen dominated the first period and did not allow his opponent to take any points. The Indian wrestler pinned his opponent in the first period to take a 2-0 lead.
In the final three minutes, Naveen managed to hold his ground with a powerful grip on his opponent, sweeping the Pakistani wrestler into the ring to win the gold medal.
Earlier in the day, Indian wrestler Pooja Gehlot won a bronze medal in the women’s freestyle 50kg category. She defeated Christine Lemoffac Lechidzio of Scotland at Coventry Arena Wrestling Matt B on Saturday.
Ravi Dahiya won his first Commonwealth Games gold medal in wrestling in men’s freestyle 57kg category.
Dahiya won the gold medal match 10–0 by technical superiority against Abikevenimo Velasson.
Vinesh Phogat defeated Sri Lanka’s Chamodya Keshani Maduravalge to win the gold medal in the women’s freestyle 53kg category. The match lasted two minutes and 24 seconds and Phogat sealed the victory.
