It is a one-two spot on the podium for India in the men’s triple jump as Aldhos Paul won the gold medal with a best jump of 17.03m, while Abdullah Abubakar took the silver with a jump of 17.02m. It could have been a clean sweep for India but Pravin Chitravel finished fourth and missed the podium.

Paul took the lead with his third jump, the only time he crossed the 17m mark in his six attempts.

Abubacker continued to improve throughout the competition and eventually moved to silver medal position with his 5th attempt.

Chitravel tried his best but could not surpass Brunei’s Jah-Nhai Perinchiff with a jump of 16.92m, who spoiled the Indian party by winning the bronze medal.

This is India’s first ever gold medal in athletics at the Commonwealth Games 2022.

India’s overall performance in athletics has improved significantly since 2018, with more medals still to be expected.
