Otmar Szafnauer has warned Alpine may protest Lewis Hamilton’s car after Mercedes tried another ground stay at the Canadian Gramd Prix.
It comes after a new technical guideline was issued by the FIA to try to control porpoising issues.
Szafnauer said: “It could very well be that we shouldn’t be running that in qualifying in the race. If the teams brought in those suspensions, I imagine maybe they could be looked at and protested.
“It’s against the regulations as they are today. We definitely don’t have any. And unfortunately, if you have an extra stay, you can run the car lower and stiffer, and gain some advantage.”
