Sreeja Akula, who recently won a gold medal in the mixed-doubles table tennis event at the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham, was felicitated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence in New Delhi last Saturday. The 24-year-old Sreeja along with her partner Sharath Kamal won the coveted gold medal in the quadrangular event, becoming the first Indian pair to win a mixed doubles gold in Commonwealth Games history. Sreeja was among 31 athletes who made their Commonwealth Games debut, winning medals for India.

Speaking about being honored at the grand ceremony in New Delhi, Sreeja described it as a moment she can never forget. “It was an honor for me to meet PM Modi and hear his inspiring words.
