Rohit Sharma led Indian Premier League side Mumbai Indians to a record five titles before becoming India’s captain of all formats. While he was handed over the white-ball captaincy of the national team in December last year, Rohit was selected as India’s full-time Test captain in February 2022. Talking about his captaincy style, the right-handed batsman said that he tries to keep things simple. Rohit said that confusion between players and their roles is the last thing he would want in his captaincy.
“What I’ve done over the years with the Mumbai Indians franchise and also in the time that I’ve led India, it just keeps it very simple and doesn’t complicate things too much. Making sure…whatever I’ve said before about giving people that freedom. Explaining to them what their role is. That’s what I would expect from myself, that’s what I want to do for the team, to make sure the players don’t have any confusion ,” said Rohit in a video posted on Twitter by Star Sports.
“That (confusion) is the last thing you want, especially when you’re playing a high-profile tournament. We want to make sure that my role alongside Rahul (Dravid) becomes very important. Brother. We want that.” But for me, it’s very simple. I try to keep things really, very, very simple,” Rohit said.

While Rohit, like many other senior players, is rested for India’s three-match ODI series vs Zimbabwe, his next assignment will be the upcoming Asia Cup which begins on August 27. It is worth noting that India will begin their campaign in the continental schedule with a match against arch-rivals Pakistan at the Dubai International Stadium on August 28.
