The premier league once again outperformed its competitors in terms of money spent this summer, with Manchester United, chelsea, liverpool, Tottenham and Arsenal everything is getting stronger ahead of the new season. Clubs still have until the end of the month to complete their transfer business, but all five teams have already spent over £500m this summer. here sports express evaluates the activity of each of the five clubs.
Manchester United – 3/10
After finishing sixth last season and appointing a new boss Erik ten HagUnited are the club on this list that have needed the most investment for the new season, but only Lisandro Martnez, Tyrell Malacia and Christian Eriksen have arrived this summer.
All three are likely to improve the Red Devils, but significant holes in the squad still need to be patched. The club have been chasing Frenkie de Jong from Barcelona all summer and don’t seem any closer to securing the Dutchman’s signature, while the future of Cristiano Ronaldo is still up in the air.
If the Portuguese striker gets his wish and leaves the club, at least one new striker will need to be brought in, but the midfield issues that plagued United last season have still not been resolved and there are still questions back and worries. on whether David de Gea should be replaced by a more skilled goalkeeper with the ball at his feet.
Chelsea – 7/10
Thomas Tuché lamented his club’s lack of activity in the transfer market on several occasions over the summer, but it looks like the Blues are just starting to make progress in the window under new co-owner and caretaker sporting director Todd Boehly , and this rating is likely to be higher at the end of the month.
Rahim Sterling will add much-needed goals up top but there are still question marks over whether another striker is needed for the Blues to compete with Manchester City and Liverpool. Kalidou Koulibaly and Marc Cucurella are solid additions to a defense that needed reinforcements and it looks like Chelsea are one or two more pieces away from an extremely strong window.
Tottenham – 8/10
Antonio Conte demanded improvement from their squad after finishing fourth last season, and the club quickly signed six players to strengthen the squad. The depth at the club is much greater as Richarlison can turn with Harry Kane, Son Heung-min and Dejan Kulusevski, Yves Bissouma competes with Rodrigo Bentancur and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Clément Lenglet will rival Ben Davies in the bottom three.
Ivan Perisic is Conte’s perfect wing-back and, when fully fit, will provide another huge threat on the left side for Spurs. The Croatian is another goal threat alongside the front three and could make a huge difference this season.
