Man Utd transfer news: Casemiro deal ‘moves forward’ with Real Madrid after competitive bid | Soccer | sport

Manchester United’s transfer deal for Casemiro is ‘moving forward’ and Real Madrid are ready to agree a sale this summer, according to reports. The Red Devils are now focusing their efforts on signing the 31-year-old midfield anchor in a bid to bolster their mid-park options for under-fire boss Erik ten Hag.

So far this season, United have proven to be a soft touch in that department, losing their opening two Premier League games to Brighton and Brentford respectively.

Casemiro has been there and done it all after winning five Champions League titles during his time with Los Blancos, who are also the defending La Liga champions after winning the double under Carlo Ancelotti last season.

His steel and experience have been essential throughout Real Madrid’s European dominance, but there’s a feeling he’d be ready to explore a new Premier League challenge this summer – given the chance.

According Athleticisman agreement between the two clubs is now progressing after initial talks.

He has also played alongside Fred in midfield at international level with Brazil and the pair could be reunited at Old Trafford this season if a deal is agreed.

The Red Devils have wasted the better part of three months working on a deal for Frenkie de Jong, who is still unwilling to reunite with Ten Hag at United.

Now United are finally showing signs of moving on to other targets with Casemiro now front and center in the final weeks of the transfer window.

Ten Hag has been tasked with replacing Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic, who both left when their contracts expired in June.

New signing Christian Eriksen played a deeper role in midfield in the 4-0 loss at Brentford, but Ten Hag would ideally like to move him forward further.

Fred and Scott McTominay remain United’s first-choice central midfield pair, but there is an appreciation that the club need more quality in that department in order to reach the top four.

United are also set to revive a deal for Ajax winger Antony, although the Dutch giants have already made it clear he is not for sale.

Meanwhile, Cristiano Ronaldo’s future remains uncertain, with the veteran still eager for a new challenge.
