Appleit’s new iPhone Software iOS 16expected in September, will allow you to modify and cancel the sending of SMS for the first time.

This means you can go back and correct a typo or delete a message if you sent it to the wrong person. And the person you text will see the updated text, or that you deleted a message, as long as they’re also running iOS 16.

The feature is already available in the public beta, which you can download to your phone now. But if not, you’ll see this feature once the software becomes available to everyone in the fall. You just need an iPhone released in 2017 or later. And, most importantly, the person you are texting must also have the updated software.

Here’s what you do.
