Aqua Bazar, an online marketplace application to help fish farmers and stakeholders source inputs, was launched by Fisheries, Livestock and Dairy Minister Parshottam Rupala on Thursday. According to the ministry, Aqua Bazar was developed by ICAR-Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture, based in Bhubaneswar, with financial support from NFDB under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMSSY).
“It is a market that connects the various players involved in the aquaculture sector,” the ministry said. The application will help fish farmers and stakeholders to source the inputs such as fish seed, feed, medicine and services needed for fish farming, as well as farmers can list table size fish at sale.
Addressing the meeting, State Minister for Fisheries, Livestock and Dairy, Sanjeev Kumar Balyan said there is immense potential for shrimp farming in the states of Rajasthan. , Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Punjab. If aquaculture is developed in these states, they can compete with Andhra Pradesh in shrimp production. Extension services should be provided to farmers in these states, he added.
Minister of State for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairy Industry, L Murugan, said fisheries departments should focus on infrastructure development projects, such as fishing harbours, fish landing, ice factories and cold stores.
Ramesh Chand, a member of NITI Aayog, said the fisheries sector has been showing record steady growth of around 8% over the past decade. “One district, one product” should be promoted and advanced technologies should be applied in the fisheries sector.
Parshottam Rupala also released a book on “Indian Fisheries Super Success Stories” during the 9th National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB) governing body meeting here, according to an official statement.
