Okinawa Autotech says to invest Rs. 500 Crore to set up electric vehicle manufacturing plant in Rajasthan

Okinawa electric two-wheeler maker Autotech announced on Wednesday that it will invest Rs. 500 crore to set up a new manufacturing plant at Karoli in Rajasthan.

Spread over 30 acres of land, the factory will have an annual production capacity of 10 lakh units and will be fully operational from October 2023, Okinawa Autotech said in a statement.

The plant will employ more than 5,000 people. It will be the company’s third plant apart from the two manufacturing plants at Alwar in Rajasthan, he added.

“As the market leader in the electric two-wheeler segment, we are committed to solving the most important issues facing the sector. The planned R&D facilities at the mega factory will be futuristic to ensure we meet future industry demand,” Okinawa Autotech Founder and MD Jeetender Sharma said.

The plant will not only focus on manufacturing vehicles, but will also have a supplier base that will take into account motors, controllers, batteries and other electrical parts to support the ecosystem. full range of electric vehicles, he added.

This factory will have an in-house automatic robotic battery manufacturing unit as well as a motor and controller factory, the company said, adding that there will also be robotic automation of the molding of plastic body parts. and a state-of-the-art paint shop to facilitate localization in the production process.

Okinawa said manufacturing of the entire range of scooters and motorcycles under its current joint venture with Tacita, aimed at domestic and international markets, will take place at the new plant.
