WhatsApp would add a new security feature to allow users to protect their accounts from potential scammers. According to a feature tracker, the feature is called Login Approval and is currently in development. This will build on the two-step verification feature that the instant messaging platform already offers. With this feature, users can receive alerts in WhatsApp when a user logs into an account from another smartphone. Recently, it was reported that WhatsApp was working on adding the ability to view former group participants on iOS.
According to a report by WhatsApp feature tracker WABetaInfo, the Meta-owned instant messaging platform is rolling out WhatsApp 22.214.171.124 beta. The feature tracker spotted a new security feature called Login Approval, which is currently under development and may be released as part of a future update.
According to the report, the login approval feature will send users an in-app alert when another user attempts to log into their account from another smartphone. A user will only be able to log in after getting approval from the handset from which the account is already logged in. This feature is meant to mitigate the risk of a user’s account and information being stolen.
WhatsApp already offers a two-step verification feature. The login approval feature could also protect users in case they inadvertently shared their six-digit security code. According to the alleged screenshots shared by the WhatsApp feature tracker, the alert also displays the time the connection attempt was made along with phone information.
According to a recent report, WhatsApp is also working on adding the ability to view former group members with a beta version of its iOS client. Said update was reportedly released for a limited number of beta testers. A wider rollout of the feature to more beta testers may take place in the coming weeks, the report added.
