Clydebank fire: Fire engulfs care home as ‘area to avoid’ warning is issued – explosions heard | United Kingdom | New

A fire broke out at the Frank Downie House nursing home in Dalmuir last night, Scottish Emergency Services have revealed.

Scottish Fire & Rescue mobilized six aircraft to the scene but said no casualties had been reported at this time.

A spokesperson for SFRS said: “We were alerted at 9.36pm on Saturday August 6th to reports of a fire affecting an abandoned building on Ottawa Crescent, Clydebank.

“Operations Control has mobilized six aircraft to the scene, where crews remain present as they work to extinguish the fire.

“There are no reported casualties at this time.”

Police Scotland officers are also present and have issued a warning to residents of the area.

A force spokesman said: “Emergency services are dealing with a fire in Ottawa Crescent, Clydebank.

“Roads in the area have been closed and residents have been evacuated as a precaution. Avoid the area.

“Clydemuir Primary School has been opened to anyone evacuated and you should keep the windows closed.”

Locals took to social media to share their reactions to the fire.

Michelle Bonner has revealed how her husband Jamie recorded drone footage of the fire.

The clip showed plumes of smoke rising into the Scottish summer night sky.

Flashing lights from emergency service vehicles could also be seen reflecting off buildings in the distance.

Another user, operating under the handle @lunefaerie_, warned that there even “appeared to be explosions”.

A second Twitter account added: “Something seems to have exploded in Dalmuir? Big fire.”
