According to reports, the fire started around 2:30 a.m. Family members said the house was hosting a family reunion and some of the children inside had slept.

Pennsylvania State Police said three victims had been pulled from the smoldering pile of rubble Friday morning, and an excavator continued to help search for other victims.

According to the soldiers, the victims ranged in age from six to 70 years old.

Lt. Derek Felsman said: “Three deceased individuals have been removed and we expect several other deceased individuals to be respectfully removed from the residence upon identification.

“It’s a complex criminal investigation with multiple deaths.”

Nescopeck Volunteer Fire Co. firefighter Harold Baker was among the first to reach the spot.

Mr Baker said: ‘The address they gave us was the neighbour’s address.

“It was right next to them. … When we turned the corner here on Dewey (street), I immediately knew which house it was just by looking down the street.

“I was on the first engine, and when we stopped the whole place was fully involved.
