Shark attack horror: Vacationers maimed in waist-deep water on South Carolina beach | United Kingdom | New

The first victim of Monday’s shark attack in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, was a woman enjoying her vacation with her 8-year-old grandson. Karren Sites of Pittsburgh was standing waist deep in water when she felt the shark’s sharp teeth grab her arm.

Ms Sites told WPDE: “I just felt something I guess bite me and there was a shark on my arm. I was only waist deep in water. I kept going. push it out of my arm and it’s done.”

His shocked grandson who witnessed the scene said: “I couldn’t even see the shark coming but all I saw was the shark jumped up and he didn’t not even bitten to the end.

“I saw the tail move going sideways then she squealed a bit and as soon as she touched her she fell in the water.

“As soon as she touched him, he fell into the water.”

The woman was taken to hospital where she had to undergo hundreds of stitches.

Local news outlet MyrtleBeachSC reported that it was unclear if the same shark was involved in both cases.

Daniel Abel, professor of marine science at Coastal Carolina University, said it was a shark bite based on the shape of the wound.

Mr Abel said: “It’s very clearly a shark bite, when you look at the arc of the teeth marks and the damage that has been done.

“My sympathies to the victim, it’s a horrible thing to experience.”

Master Corporal Kevin Larke of the Myrtle Beach Police Department said there was a second attack later that day, although no details were immediately available about it.

He said one of the two victims suffered a “bad bite” to the forearm during Monday’s ordeals.
