New Delhi:

Twitter posted its first-ever edited tweet, weeks after the microblogging company announced it was actively testing an edit button. The tweet from the Twitter Blue Friday handle was edited after it was posted, demonstrating how the feature will actually work.

The tweet featured a pencil icon and a “Last Modified” label at the bottom, which when clicked indicated the edits made to the post.

The feature is still not available to the general public and the company had mentioned earlier that it would be available to Twitter Blue users first. To use the edit button, users will have to pay $4.99 per month for the Twitter Blue service, at least initially.

Twitter earlier this month said the “Edit Tweet” trial would start with internal employees and then expand to the platform’s “Twitter Blue” follower population.

Twitter Blue has not yet launched in India, but the subscription offer is available in the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

“Edit Tweet is a feature that allows users to make changes to their Tweet after it’s been posted,” the company said on its blog. “Think of it as a short period of time to do things like fix typos, add missed tags, and more.”

As part of the review, users could edit a tweet “multiple times” within 30 minutes of initial posting, transparently logging changes to “help protect the integrity of the conversation and create a record.” publicly available of what was said,” the company said.
