UK weather: Britain to be battered by 30C as heatwave returns on August bank holiday | Weather | New

The Met Office has issued an update and while they don’t confirm a heat wave they do hint at ‘very hot temperatures’. UK Meteorological Service chief meteorologist Jim Dale said temperatures could hit 20 degrees.

Mr Dale said: “Based on current models, temperatures around public holidays could be in the low 20s and the extreme would be 30 degrees Celsius.

“Southern regions could see 25C, 26C, 27C degrees and the odd 28C 29C, with the extreme reaching 30C degrees.”

Forecasters predict: “High pressures attempt to build towards the end of this period and fine, dry weather is expected to prevail for many for the remainder of August.

“Light winds are likely with plenty of sunshine and generally warm or locally very warm temperatures.”

With regard to the medium to long range weather forecast, the Met Office says: “A north-west/south-east temperature distribution may also develop, in which cooler polar air will characterize the north and the south will see warmer tropical air temperatures.”

Meanwhile, there is a strong start for much of England and Wales on Saturday with some showers for the Pennines and parts of Wales.

It will remain dry in the Southeast and temperatures here will reach 24C or 25C.

Further north it will be a bit cooler, staying around 17C to 19C.

“Following a dry start on Sunday, clouds will form from the west as the next weather system approaches, bringing rain to Cornwall and then Northern Ireland by the end of the day.

“Temperatures will drop a bit on Saturday, although it will be wetter.

“A broad band of rain will move east across the UK on Monday, heavy in places with a risk of thunderstorms.”
