Ukraine LIVE: Putin mocked by MoD amid humiliating tank losses | World | New

Russia has announced that it will allow United Nations (UN) inspectors to visit Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant.

Putin made the announcement after a discussion with French President Emmanuel Macron, during which he “noted the importance” of sending experts from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to investigate.

They will be allowed to take stock of “the situation on the ground” upon their arrival.

Putin’s forces captured the nuclear and thermal power plants of the plant in March after the Battle of Enerhodar and have since taken control of the entire complex.

While still staffed by Ukrainian workers and administered by the Russian company Rosatom, both sides have accused the other of bombing the immediate area.

IAEA chief Rafael Grossi, who will visit the plant alongside other staff, said the situation was “very volatile and fragile”.

He added: “It is vitally important that no further action is taken which could further endanger the safety and security of one of the largest nuclear power stations in the world.”
